QR Code Scanner

Read a QR code from an image, a screenshot or your camera, and see what it contains: a link, Wi-Fi details, a contact, a location and more. Everything happens in your browser.
Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

QR codes are read in this browser. Images, camera frames and decoded content are never uploaded or saved.

Scan with a camera

The camera turns off when a code is found, when you stop it, or when you leave the page.

How to use the QR Code Scanner

  1. Upload or drop an image with a QR code, paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V (⌘+V on a Mac), or select Take a photo on your phone.
  2. Or select Start camera and point it at the code. Scanning stops, and the camera turns off, as soon as a code is read.
  3. Check the result. Open a link, view Wi-Fi or contact details, or copy the decoded content with the copy button.

Examples

  • A link on a poster or menu: see the full address before you visit it, then select Open link.
  • A Wi-Fi code: read the network name and security type; the password stays hidden until you select Show.
  • A business card QR (vCard or MeCard): see the name, phone numbers, emails, company and address.
  • A screenshot someone sent you: paste it straight into the page, no need to save it first.
  • A location code: see the latitude and longitude and open the spot on OpenStreetMap.

What the scanner recognises

The QR code is decoded with jsQR, an open-source decoder that runs in your browser. The text it contains is then checked against the common QR formats:

  • Links (http and https), with an Open link button. Other kinds of links are shown as text only.
  • Email (mailto: and MATMSG): address, subject and message.
  • Phone numbers (tel:) and text messages (sms: and SMSTO:).
  • Contacts in vCard and MeCard format.
  • Wi-Fi (WIFI:): network name, security, password and whether the network is hidden.
  • Locations (geo:) and calendar events (VEVENT).
  • Anything else, including plain text in any language, is shown exactly as decoded.

Privacy

Images and camera frames are read into memory in this page and never uploaded. The decoded content isn't stored or sent anywhere. The camera is used only after you select Start camera, and it turns off as soon as a code is found, when you stop it, when you switch tabs, or when you leave the page.

Limitations

One QR code is read per image; if a picture contains several, the first one found is shown. Damaged, very small or blurry codes may not be readable, and ordinary barcodes aren't supported. Live scanning needs camera permission and a browser that supports it.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to scan a QR code here?

The scanner only reads the code; it never opens anything by itself. Links are shown in full first, so you can check where they lead before selecting Open link.

Why can't the camera start?

Your browser needs permission to use the camera. If you blocked it, allow the camera for this site in your browser settings, or use Take a photo or upload an image instead.

Can I scan a QR code from a screenshot?

Yes. Upload or drop the screenshot, or copy it and paste it into the page with Ctrl+V or ⌘+V.

Are my images or the decoded content uploaded?

No. Decoding happens in your browser, and nothing is uploaded, saved or tracked.

Can it read several QR codes in one image?

It reads one code per image. Crop the picture or scan each code separately.
