PDF to Excel

Turn tables and other selectable text in a PDF into an Excel workbook, locally in your browser.
Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Your PDF is read and converted locally in this browser. No file or extracted data is uploaded.

Rows and columns are rebuilt from where the text sits on each page. This works best for simple, text-based tables. Scanned pages need OCR, which is not included.

How to use the PDF to Excel

  1. Choose a text-based PDF. It is read only in your browser.
  2. Select Convert to Excel. Each page with text becomes its own worksheet.
  3. Check the preview, then download the XLSX and review it in Excel, LibreOffice or Google Sheets.

Examples

  • Invoice or statement tables. Item, quantity and amount columns become spreadsheet columns, with plain numbers such as 1,250.00 stored as numbers.
  • Reports with a title. Headings and notes keep their own row, in the column where they start.
  • Mixed documents. Pages without selectable text, such as scanned pages, are listed and skipped.

How the columns are found

PDFs don't store tables as rows and columns, only text placed at positions on the page. PDF.js reads that text with its position. Text on the same line becomes a row. A gap wider than about one character starts a new cell, and cells whose horizontal ranges overlap across rows form one column, so left-, centre- and right-aligned values stay together.

Plain numbers (for example 12, -4.5 or 1,250.00) become numeric cells. Percentages, currency amounts, dates and codes with leading zeros stay as text, so nothing is silently changed. Text that looks like a formula is stored as text, never as a formula.

Limitations

Merged cells, multi-line cells, ruled table borders and multi-column page layouts aren't detected and may need tidying. Scanned or image-only pages need OCR, which is not included. The PDF and its contents never leave your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Will the spreadsheet match the PDF exactly?

Simple tables usually convert cleanly. Complex layouts may split or merge columns differently, so review the workbook before using it.

Can I convert a scanned PDF?

No. Scanned pages contain images, not text. They are reported and skipped because OCR isn't included.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. PDF.js reads the file and the XLSX is generated in your browser. There is no upload or external API.
